Carlos Alcaraz is set to begin his Wimbledon campaign against Fabio Fognini on Monday. As the defending champion, Alcaraz will open on Centre Court. He enters the tournament with 18 consecutive wins and recent titles in Rome, Roland Garros, and Queen’s Club.
Alcaraz, ranked No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings, stated, “Most of all, I’m in no doubt that I have nothing to prove.” He emphasized focusing on personal needs rather than external expectations: “It’s my life and I live it the way I think is correct. The key is not to think about what people say, or their expectations, but to focus on what I really need and what makes me feel good.”
As he aims for a third consecutive title at The All England Club, Alcaraz values having his family and team nearby. “They play an essential role,” he noted. “Being with them helps me forget about everything going on externally. That feeling is very necessary.”
Alcaraz has opted to rent a house with his team instead of staying in a hotel for a more familial atmosphere. He explained, “All of us being together in a house creates more of a family atmosphere.”
In preparation for Wimbledon, Alcaraz practiced with players like Novak Djokovic and Joao Fonseca. Regarding Fonseca, he said: “He’s incredible… But if he needs something someday, he knows where to find me.”
Looking ahead to his match against Fognini—whom Alcaraz leads 2-0 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head—he remains cautious: “Fabio is a very talented player… The early rounds can be dangerous.”
