Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti are set to face off in the Roland Garros semi-finals. The two have already met twice this season, with Alcaraz securing victories in both the Monte-Carlo final and Rome semi-finals. The Spaniard is aiming for his sixth consecutive win against Musetti.
Alcaraz, the defending champion at Roland Garros, has been performing strongly. After a series of four-set matches in Paris, he delivered an impressive quarter-final performance against Tommy Paul, losing just five games. “I could close my eyes and everything went in,” said Alcaraz about his form during the match.
Musetti started Roland Garros ranked No. 7 and has moved up to No. 6 in live rankings. A victory over Alcaraz would elevate him to No. 4. Musetti last defeated Alcaraz in their first meeting in 2022 but has since struggled against him.
In April’s Monte-Carlo event, Musetti won an opening set against Alcaraz before being hindered by injury. In Rome, Alcaraz secured another victory over Musetti amid challenging conditions.
Musetti hopes to upset the reigning champion by focusing on his improved serve, which he credits for enhancing his game this season: “We shortened a bit the motion to have more control,” he explained.
The Italian’s progress has drawn praise from fellow player Alexander Zverev for his stable play during the clay-court season.
As Musetti approaches potentially reaching his first Grand Slam title match, he faces a formidable opponent in Alcaraz—a seven-time Masters 1000 winner and four-time major champion—who is only one year younger at age 22.
