Daniel Altmaier advanced to the second round of the Mallorca Championships, defeating Fabio Fognini in a closely contested match. Altmaier, seeded eighth in the tournament, won with scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The match lasted one hour and 47 minutes as per Infosys ATP Stats.
Altmaier managed to hit 10 aces and successfully saved six out of eight break points. This victory brings the Lexus ATP Head2Head series between Altmaier and Fognini to a tie at 1-1.
“Honestly I like playing here. It was a tough match, especially mentally,” Altmaier remarked post-match. “Finding my way into the match, how to compete on grass, was important.”
The German player will face either Pedro Martinez from Spain or Corentin Moutet from France in his next match.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Laslo Djere secured a win against Buyunchaokete with scores of 6-4, 6-4. Djere will compete against either Gabriel Diallo or Jaume Munar in the following round.
