Three weeks after reaching the third round at Wimbledon as a qualifier, August Holmgren has claimed victory at the ATP Challenger Tour event in Granby. The 27-year-old won the Les Championnats Banque Nationale de Granby, defeating Canadian Liam Draxl 6-3, 6-3 in the final. This win follows his remarkable performance at Wimbledon where he saved three match points in both the qualifying third round and against Tomas Machac.
Holmgren expressed satisfaction with maintaining his momentum from Wimbledon, stating, “The key was to keep my momentum from Wimbledon going.” He emphasized the importance of confidence and aggression in his playing style. Holmgren’s success in Canada elevates him to No. 146 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
Reflecting on his journey, Holmgren noted, “I’m still in the process of trying to do play at a consistently high level for a long period of time.” Despite a challenging start to the year with a 6-14 record, he aims to sustain his performance throughout the season.
In other tournaments, Daniel Merida of Spain secured his first Challenger title at the Open Ciudad de Pozoblanco by defeating Sun Fajing 6-3, 6-4. This achievement marks Merida’s rise to No. 175 in the rankings.
Slovakian Lukas Klein emerged victorious at the Internazionali di Tennis San Marino Open after a week of challenging matches. Klein overcame Dino Prizmic 6-3, 6-4 in the final and shared that it was an “amazing feeling” to win despite some tough moments.
Meanwhile, Jan Choinski claimed his second Challenger title this month by winning at Bunschoten. The British player defeated Kimmer Coppejans 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 for his fifth overall Challenger title.
