Alexander Bublik reached a new career milestone at the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad by defeating Arthur Cazaux 6-1, 7-5 in the semi-finals. This victory places Bublik into his 13th tour-level final and marks his first on clay. The second seed impressed with a perfect set record and 35 winners during the match, which lasted 73 minutes.
Bublik expressed surprise at his consistent two-set victories, saying, “Surprisingly, I have been winning every match in two sets, but before the tournament I was not convinced on court.” He also noted the adaptability required for playing tennis in various conditions: “Tennis is tennis, we play in all conditions: Rain, sun, wind… We have to adapt, and clay is one of those things.”
In his match against Cazaux, Bublik excelled with his serve, hitting 12 aces and winning 87 percent of first-serve points. This performance boosts him four spots to No. 30 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
Bublik will compete against Juan Manuel Cerundolo in Sunday’s championship match as he seeks his sixth ATP Tour title. Cerundolo defeated Ignacio Buse 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the final. Reflecting on his strategy during windy conditions, Cerundolo stated: “Today was too windy, I think the key was to play with the wind.”
Cerundolo’s win over World No. 13 Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals helped him jump 28 spots to No. 81 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.
