Francisco Cerundolo secured a place in the semi-finals of the Nordea Open in Bastad after a challenging three-set match against Damir Dzumhur. The top-seeded Argentine overcame Dzumhur, who required medical attention for his right shoulder, with a score of 6-0, 3-6, 6-3. This victory brings Cerundolo’s clay-court record for 2025 to 21 wins and nine losses, second only to Carlos Alcaraz.
Cerundolo expressed his positive outlook on being the top seed, stating, “If I’m the top seed here it’s because I’ve done pretty well during the year, so I take it as a compliment, not a pressure.” He acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining high performance throughout the match but was pleased with his win.
Cerundolo is now ranked No. 19 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings and could return to his career-high No. 18 if he wins the tournament. His next opponent is Luciano Darderi, who defeated Sebastian Baez convincingly with a score of 6-0, 6-2. Darderi described his performance as possibly “the best match of my career.”
Elsewhere in the tournament, Camilo Ugo Carabelli advanced to his third ATP Tour semi-final this season by defeating Filip Misolic. Ugo Carabelli will face Jesper de Jong in the semi-finals after de Jong’s comeback victory over Tallon Griekspoor.
