Luciano Darderi achieved a significant victory at the Bitpanda Hamburg Open, defeating German wild card Diego Dedura with a score of 6-1, 6-4. The match lasted 70 minutes, during which Darderi excelled on his first serve, winning 90 percent of points as reported by Infosys ATP Stats. This performance was against #NextGenATP player Dedura, who was playing in Hamburg for the first time.
Darderi has shown consistent results on clay courts in Germany, having reached the quarter-finals in Hamburg last year and also advancing to the last eight at the ATP 500 event in Munich this April. Currently ranked No. 46 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Darderi is set to compete next against either seventh seed Brandon Nakashima or Belgian qualifier Raphael Collignon.
In another match, fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo maintained his strong form by defeating Pedro Martinez with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-3. Earlier this month, Cerundolo made it to the semi-finals at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid. As a former semi-finalist in Hamburg himself, he will face either Jiri Lehecka or Borna Gojo next.
The tournament’s top seed Alexander Zverev is scheduled to play American qualifier Aleksandar Kovacevic in his opening round on Monday.
