Diede de Groot marked her return to the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour with a series of wins over top 10 players, securing victory at the 2025 Tram Barcelona Open. She joined Gustavo Fernandez and Niels Vink as champions at the event.

De Groot’s triumph in Barcelona was her first singles title since Wimbledon 2024. After eight months away from competition due to hip surgery, she faced challenging matches against Lizzy de Greef, Zhu Zhenzhen, and Li Xiaohui. Li had previously ended De Groot’s 145-match winning streak in 2024. In their latest encounter, De Groot overcame a first-set loss to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Expressing her joy on Instagram, she described the victory as “muy especial.”

Li Xiaohui found consolation by winning the women’s doubles title alongside Guo Luoyao. They defeated Manami Tanaka and Zhu Zhenzhen in a hard-fought match.

In men’s singles, Gustavo Fernandez claimed his fourth Barcelona Open title in five years by defeating Martin de la Puente 6-4, 6-4. De la Puente had earlier won the men’s doubles title with Ruben Spaargaren after Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid withdrew before the semi-finals.

Niels Vink continued his success in Barcelona by winning his third quad singles title since 2022. He defeated Guy Sasson in straight sets for his fourth singles title of the year. Vink also won both singles and doubles titles at this year’s tournament.
