With the scoreboard at 7-5, 6-7(2), 4-3, Hubert Hurkacz was close to winning his ninth ATP Tour title and his first of the season at the Gonet Geneva Open. Until this point, Hurkacz had maintained a strong serve without dropping a point in the third set.
On the other side of the net, Novak Djokovic was pursuing his 100th tour-level title. The match’s dynamics shifted suddenly as Hurkacz faced difficulties while serving to maintain his lead. This allowed Djokovic an opportunity that he quickly seized.
The turning point came during the eighth game when Hurkacz missed a forehand shot into the net after forcing Djokovic into a defensive position. This error was followed by a double fault, giving Djokovic a significant advantage at 0/30. Although Hurkacz managed to recover briefly to 15/30, he soon made another mistake with a long forehand, resulting in two break points for Djokovic.
Hurkacz saved one break point but faltered again at 4-3, 30/40 when he failed to finish a volley. Djokovic capitalized on this by executing a precise passing shot to break back and level the set at 4-all.
Djokovic then took control of the match, eventually winning in a third-set tie-breaker. This victory marked his 100th tour-level title and added another achievement to his career.
