Corentin Moutet, ranked 39th in the world, secured a win for France in his Davis Cup debut by defeating Croatia’s Dino Prizmic. The match took place during the Qualifiers 2nd Round in Osijek. With this victory, France leads their tie against Croatia.
Both teams have participated in every Davis Cup Finals since 2019 and are aiming to keep that record intact. Moutet won the match with scores of 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Prizmic, ranked No. 119, kept the contest close but was unable to overcome Moutet in the final set.
The match saw Prizmic convert his eighth set point to level things at one set each before Moutet dominated the third set to claim victory.
Croatia’s captain Ivan Dodig had expressed surprise at French captain Paul-Henri Mathieu’s choice to select Moutet and Arthur Rinderknech for the opening singles matches instead of higher-ranked Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or Benjamin Bonzi.
Moutet said after his win: “I wanted to repay the faith Mathieu had shown in me and he achieved that in spades.” Rinderknech is scheduled to play Marin Cilic next as France looks to extend its lead.
