Holger Rune has withdrawn from the Mubadala Citi DC Open due to lower back pain. The Danish player was scheduled to participate as the third seed in the ATP 500 tournament held on hard courts in Washington D.C. Corentin Moutet will replace Rune in the draw and face fellow Frenchman Alexandre Muller in the second round.
Rune expressed his disappointment on social media, stating, “Super unlucky. Yesterday in practice my back locked and I am not fit to play today. I tried it before and nothing dramatic, just super bad timing, as I looked very much forward to play tonight in Washington. See you all soon.”
Currently ranked No. 9 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Rune holds a season record of 22-14 according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He is a five-time ATP Tour champion and plans to compete next at the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers in Toronto. Earlier this week, Rune spent time training with former World No. 1 Andre Agassi, who is a record five-time champion of the Washington event.
