Hubert Hurkacz, a professional tennis player from Poland, has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. The 28-year-old athlete announced the news on social media this Wednesday.
“Over the past few weeks, I’ve been dealing with knee issues, such as pain, fluid build-up and other problems that made it hard to train and compete,” Hurkacz stated. He explained that after considering various options, an arthroscopy performed on Monday was deemed the best course of action.
Hurkacz detailed the procedure: “During the procedure, the overgrown synovial membrane causing the inflammation, pain and related issues were removed.” He expressed gratitude to Dr. Bartlomiej Kacprzak for performing the surgery.
Last year, Hurkacz experienced a setback when he tore his right meniscus during a Wimbledon match against Arthur Fils. Consequently, he did not participate in this season’s Wimbledon tournament.
Currently ranked No. 39 in the PIF ATP Rankings with a 15-11 record for the season according to Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Hurkacz reached the Geneva final in May but was defeated by Novak Djokovic in an intense three-hour match.
“I’m now starting my recovery and will only come back when I’m 110 per cent ready to compete again,” Hurkacz assured his supporters. He also extended his thanks for their support and shared his anticipation to return to competitive play. “Wishing everyone a successful Wimbledon! This year, I’ll be watching from the sofa.”
