Electronic line calling systems in tennis will now be classified into three tiers: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. This new classification system was announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) today.

Previously, there was only one level of classification for systems intended for elite-level events. The introduction of a three-tiered system aims to broaden access to this technology across various levels of competition.

Gold systems are designated for use at elite international competitions such as Grand Slams, WTA and ATP Tours, Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge, and Davis Cup. Silver systems are meant for second-tier international competitions like the ITF World Tennis Tour. Bronze systems target national-level competitions.

These changes result from collaboration between international tennis governing bodies, including the four Grand Slams, ATP, WTA, and ITF. Systems that meet the required standards will receive classification at the appropriate level and can be used in events sanctioned by these governing bodies.

The assessment principles—accuracy, reliability, suitability, and practicality—remain consistent across all levels. The new procedures aim to unify how international governing bodies evaluate and monitor ELC systems.

According to Stuart Miller, ITF Senior Executive Director of Integrity & Legal: “These procedures recognise the growing demand from both players and tournaments for ELC systems…and our desire to ensure that technology meets the highest possible standards.”

Further information on these evaluation procedures is available through official channels.
