Jack Secord, a 16-year-old tennis player, recently reached the third round of the Junior Championships at Wimbledon. His victory over Great Britain’s Benjamin Gusic Wan, with scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, marked his best performance in a Junior Grand Slam event. Secord will face Bulgaria’s Ivan Ivanov next for a chance to enter the quarter-finals.

Secord draws inspiration from prominent players like Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Mackenzie McDonald. However, he also finds motivation closer to home through his mother, Linda Wild. Wild is known for reaching the quarter-finals at the US Open in 1996 and participating in significant matches at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

“My mum did play here,” Secord mentioned to itftennis.com. “Her coach is my grandpa, and he coaches me. He knows a lot about grass so he is a big help here at Wimbledon.”

Secord reflects on watching one of his mother’s matches against Lindsay Davenport at the US Open: “It’s weird when you see your mum on TV like that… I see her competitive face, but I just see my mum.”

As Secord continues his journey in tennis, he expressed excitement about playing at Wimbledon for the first time: “This is my first time playing here at Wimbledon and it’s really cool,” said Secord.

The young athlete hopes to make a name for himself while enjoying the experience of competing on grass courts. He dreams of playing on Centre Court someday and takes inspiration from seeing renowned players like Novak Djokovic during his time at Wimbledon.
