Nicolas Jarry secured a crucial victory at the Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, marking his first Top-50 win since January. The 29-year-old overcame eighth seed Luciano Darderi with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(3) in the opening round of the grass-court ATP 250 event. Despite trailing by a set and a break, Jarry saved four break points at 4-4 in the third set before winning after two hours and thirty minutes.
Jarry has dropped to No. 150 in the PIF ATP Rankings following an inconsistent start to the season, recording a 6-12 match record. Although he reached a career-high World No. 16 previously, he struggled to defend points from last year’s ATP Masters 1000 final appearance in Rome.
In other matches, Gabriel Diallo achieved his first tour-level win on grass by defeating Aleksandar Vukic with scores of 7-5, 7-6(2). Diallo will face Jordan Thompson next, who advanced past Aleksandar Kovacevic with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-4. Thompson commented on his aspirations: “Two finals is heartbreaking, so hopefully I can just keep going like I did today and give myself another chance.”
Additionally, Nuno Borges moved into the second round after beating #NextGenATP player Nishesh Basavareddy with scores of 7-6(2), 6-2. Borges will compete against either Otto Virtanen or Tomas Martin Etcheverry next.
Basavareddy entered the ATP 250 through the Next Gen Accelerator program designed for players aged under twenty-one to gain more opportunities on the ATP Tour. The program includes specific weeks for Next Gen entry at this level, such as Week 24 (featuring ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Stuttgart) and Week 45 (Metz and Belgrade). Basavareddy was participating in his first tour-level event on grass after competing at last year’s Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF.
