Joanna Garland, a 23-year-old tennis player, has made significant strides on the ITF World Tennis Tour. Originally from Stevenage and later moving to Chinese Taipei at age 10, Garland has achieved 16 ITF singles titles in her career. This year, she qualified for her first Grand Slam at Roland Garros, reaching the second round.

Garland is currently joint-third for the most titles won on the 2025 ITF World Tennis Tour. “It’s been great,” she said of her experience with the tour’s structure and system. Starting her tennis journey at age 13, Garland praised the junior tournaments’ global reach and opportunities they provide.

Reaching as high as No. 14 in ITF Junior rankings, Garland credits the ITF pathway for boosting her confidence and development. She emphasized that performing well as a junior can set players apart when transitioning to professional levels.

The ITF World Tennis Tour offers over 1200 tournaments across more than 70 countries, providing numerous opportunities for aspiring players. “The access to tournaments is very spread out,” Garland noted. Despite fierce competition across different levels (W15 to W100), Garland enjoys participating in these events.

Garland began her professional title-winning streak in 2020 at W15 Sharm El Sheikh and has since continued winning titles at W15 and W35 levels. Her ability to perform on various surfaces—hard courts, grass, carpet, and clay—has contributed to her success.

In January this year, she claimed back-to-back victories at W35 Nairobi on clay before making a successful debut at Roland Garros by defeating American Katie Volynets in the first round. “I feel comfortable on clay,” she remarked about playing on this surface.

Representing Chinese Taipei throughout her career holds special significance for Garland. She expressed pride in representing a country not widely known for producing tennis talent: “I’m proud to be able to put Taiwan on the map.”

Looking back on some memorable moments during last year’s impressive run of form where she won five consecutive titles while maintaining an unbeaten streak of 29 matches—a testament to both skillful play under challenging conditions like rain delays—and determination amidst tight schedules such as playing semifinals followed immediately by finals matches without breaks between them; highlights included wins secured despite initial setbacks within games themselves!

Off-court interests include reading books or calling family members; however watching other sports doesn’t quite match up against passion felt towards beloved game itself which remains central focus even outside training sessions too!

With newfound success already evident via Grand Slam match wins now added into mix alongside existing achievements earned previously along way there are exciting prospects ahead eagerly anticipated next chapter unfolds soon enough!
