Laver Cup organizers have announced the launch of the 2025 San Francisco Community Legacy Project, an initiative developed in partnership with the USTA Foundation and Mercedes-Benz. The project aims to invest in local tennis programming and facilities ahead of the tournament’s arrival at Chase Center from September 19-21.
The program will provide funding for two local youth tennis non-profit organizations and support a court resurfacing project in San Francisco. Organizers say this effort reflects their commitment to making a lasting impact in each host city while increasing access to tennis for young players.
“The Laver Cup has always been about more than just the competition on court – it is about celebrating tennis and giving back to the communities that welcome us,” said Tony Godsick, Chairman of the Laver Cup and CEO of TEAM8.
“San Francisco has such a rich tennis heritage, and we are proud to team up with our partners at the USTA Foundation, USTA, and our long-time global sponsor Mercedes-Benz to create a meaningful legacy that will benefit young players for years to come.”
A central element of the Community Legacy Project is the complete resurfacing of six courts at John McLaren Park, a public facility serving local residents. The courts are used by Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA), a junior tennis program that is part of the USTA Foundation’s National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) network. The NJTL network was co-founded in 1969 by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell, and Sherian Snyder, and now includes over 270 community-based organizations focused on helping young people from under-resourced communities through tennis, education, and mentorship.
“San Francisco is thrilled to host the Laver Cup, and we are looking forward to the excitement, energy, and economic activity the matches will bring to our city,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie.
“Our city already has incredible public spaces, and these new investments in youth tennis organizations and the courts at McLaren Park will make a lasting impact with new opportunities for young people. Thank you to the Laver Cup, the USTA Foundation, and Mercedes-Benz for their investment in our young people and their commitment to improve one of San Francisco’s beloved parks.”
In addition to infrastructure improvements, significant funding will go toward programming at Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA) and East Palo Alto Tennis & Tutoring (EPATT). Both groups are part of NJTL’s national network and serve thousands of young people annually by providing academic support alongside tennis instruction.
“The USTA Foundation is thrilled to partner with the Laver Cup and Mercedes-Benz on this inspirational Bay Area initiative,” said Ginny Ehrlich, USTA Foundation CEO.
“The Laver Cup Community Legacy Project will create opportunities for thousands of young people from under-resourced communities to play tennis and reap all of the benefits of our sport. This partnership helps fortify sustainable programs that will serve these communities for decades to come. The Laver Cup’s commitment to fan engagement in the fundraising process also creates a unique opportunity for tennis lovers everywhere to be part of something bigger than the tournament itself.”
Mercedes-Benz continues its role as a global sponsor through support for this community initiative. The company maintains its involvement in youth sports as part of its broader partnership efforts.
“Mercedes-Benz is proud to support the next generation of tennis players in San Francisco,” said Mathias Geisen, Member of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Marketing & Sales. “Together with the Laver Cup, we share the belief that sport can drive lasting change in communities around the world. It has the power to give children not only joy, but also a safe space and new perspectives.”
The fundraising strategy for this project includes direct contributions from event partners as well as proceeds from specific event initiatives such as a premium auction via Charity Buzz for a VIP experience at Laver Cup 2025; all ticket sales from Open Practice Day; and profits from select limited-edition merchandise.
“This approach ensures we will leave an enduring legacy in San Francisco and invites our fans to be a part of it all,” said Laver Cup CEO Steve Zacks. “Fans can enjoy the Laver Cup and at the same time contribute to expanding opportunities for young tennis players in the Bay Area. This creates a deeper connection between our global audience and the local communities we visit, turning every Laver Cup into a celebration of tennis at every level.”
This year marks both San Francisco’s first time hosting this international team competition at Chase Center from September 19–21 as well as its debut on America’s West Coast.
Tickets remain available through Ticketmaster—the official ticketing partner—and fans can register online as ‘Laver Cup Insiders’ at lavercup.com for updates on player announcements or event news.
