Luciano Darderi secured another ATP Tour title on Sunday at the Nordea Open in Bastad. The Italian player defeated Jesper de Jong in a closely contested match, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. This victory marks Darderi’s third tour-level final win, adding to his previous titles in Cordoba and Marrakech.
Darderi expressed his excitement after the match, stating, “It’s amazing. Today I was really nervous from the beginning, even from last night. It’s my third ATP title, so at 23 years old it’s really exciting. To be here in Bastad for the first time and to win, it’s unbelievable.”
The sixth-seeded Darderi showed strong performance by winning 81 percent of his first-serve points against De Jong. His victory makes him the third player to secure multiple clay court titles this year alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Flavio Cobolli.
Darderi’s recent form has improved his season record to 20 wins and 17 losses. As a result of this triumph, he will move up nine places to No. 49 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
Jesper de Jong also had a notable week despite his loss in the final. The Dutch player upset three seeded opponents on his way to reaching his first ATP Tour final. His efforts will see him climb 23 spots to a career-high No. 83 in the rankings.
