Daniil Medvedev has progressed to his eighth quarter-final of the season at the Mubadala Citi DC Open. The 29-year-old Russian secured a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Chinese qualifier Wu Yibing on Thursday. Currently ranked No. 14 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Medvedev’s performance on Washington’s hard courts remains strong despite this being his lowest ranking since May 2019.
In his match against Wu, Medvedev delivered 11 aces and won an impressive 93 percent of his first-serve points, as reported by Infosys ATP Stats. This win marks Medvedev’s second victory over Wu in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series.
Medvedev is aiming for his first title since Rome in 2023 and is competing at the ATP 500 event for the first time since reaching the final in 2019. His next opponent will be French lucky loser Corentin Moutet. With eight quarter-final appearances this year, only Carlos Alcaraz surpasses him with ten at tour-level events in 2025.
A deep run in Washington could enhance Medvedev’s chances for the Nitto ATP Finals, where he currently stands at 17th place in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin but could rise to as high as tenth with a tournament win.
Meanwhile, American Brandon Nakashima has also advanced to his third quarter-final above the ATP Tour’s 250 level by defeating British player Cameron Norrie with scores of 7-6(3), 6-3. Nakashima will face either seventh seed Alex de Minaur or eleventh seed Jiri Lehecka next.
