Daniil Medvedev has achieved a significant milestone in his tennis career by securing his 400th tour-level win. The Russian player reached this landmark on Wednesday after defeating Quentin Halys with a score of 6-2, 7-5 at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle.
Reflecting on his career, Medvedev, who is a former world No. 1 and has claimed 20 tour-level titles, identified his victory over Novak Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final as particularly memorable. “Honestly, if I had to choose one, I would say beating Novak to win the US Open because it’s my only Grand Slam [title], but I could easily name like 20 really big ones in different aspects,” Medvedev shared with ATPTour.com.
Medvedev also recalled a challenging match against Hubert Hurkacz during the Toronto tournament in 2021. Despite initial difficulties, he managed to turn the game around and eventually won the tournament. He recounted, “I saved a break point early in the second set and I was saying to myself, ‘I’m not playing good, he’s playing amazing… Then I managed to serve better.”
The current World No. 11 emphasized that many wins contribute to his overall success and career achievements. “There are many wins which by themselves don’t really represent anything,” said Medvedev. “But if you didn’t have them, maybe you would not have your first title.”
Medvedev also fondly remembered his first tour-level victory against Horacio Zeballos on grass at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2016. He noted how Zeballos struggled with transitioning from clay to grass courts at that time: “He said that he just came after Roland Garros… Then I beat him good.”
