Slovakian tennis player Mia Pohankova is making her mark at the 2025 Junior Championships, Wimbledon. At just 16 years old, Pohankova has already competed in seven professional events since her debut on the ITF World Tennis Tour in November 2023. Her achievements include winning the W75 Bratislava tournament in October 2024, where she became the youngest champion at age 15.
Despite her success in professional tournaments, Pohankova’s junior career has been slower to take off. She currently holds a junior ranking of No. 30 globally and a WTA ranking of No. 465, which is notable for someone her age.
Pohankova advanced to round three at Wimbledon after defeating France’s Ksenia Efremova with scores of 6-3, 7-6(5). This victory followed her first-round win against Mika Stojsavljevic from Great Britain, who won last year’s US Open girls’ singles title.
Reflecting on her journey, Pohankova said: “I remember watching Wimbledon growing up in Slovakia, watching so many Roger Federer matches and that unbelievable final he played against Novak Djokovic in 2019.” She expressed excitement about playing on the same grass courts as her idols.
Pohankova will face Brazil’s Nauhany Vitoria Leme da Silva in the next round. Da Silva secured an impressive win over Czechia’s Jana Kovackova in round two.
