Andrey Rublev made a remarkable comeback in the quarter-finals of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo in Los Cabos. On Thursday, Rublev faced Emilio Nava and overcame a challenging situation, having been a set and a break down. The top seed eventually secured victory with scores of 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Rublev attributed his success to maintaining calmness and focus throughout the match. “I think two things [helped me],” he said during an on-court interview. “Firstly, I stayed calm, and secondly, I just tried to be focused and stay there. At least if I deserved to lose today, [I wanted] to give 100 per cent focus because you never know what can happen, and in the end, it paid off.”
In this match against Nava, Rublev converted four out of eleven break points as reported by Infosys ATP Stats. This win marks his fourth tour-level semi-final appearance in 2025. Rublev is currently ranked No. 10 in the PIF ATP Rankings and will face Aleksandar Kovacevic next.
Kovacevic advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Juan Pablo Ficovich with scores of 6-3, 6-1. Denis Shapovalov and Adam Walton are set to compete in Friday’s opening semi-final match on the Mexican Pacific coast.
Shapovalov continued his successful run in Mexico by defeating Tristan Schoolkate with scores of 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, Walton won against James Duckworth with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 after trailing in the third set.
Walton’s performance has elevated him by fifteen spots to No. 82 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings ahead of Monday’s edition of the PIF ATP Rankings.
