Jannik Sinner experienced a concerning fall during his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov at Wimbledon. Despite the incident, Sinner advanced to the quarter-finals after Dimitrov retired due to injury.
In the opening game, Sinner fell while trying to reach a backhand, landing on his right arm. This led to him losing his serve for the first time in the tournament and taking a medical timeout after five games in the second set.
Sinner had matched Jan Kodes’ Open Era record from 1972 by reaching this stage with only 17 games lost. However, Dimitrov applied significant pressure early on, winning 31 out of 34 service points in the first set and using slice and drop shots effectively.
The match faced a delay when the Centre Court roof was closed due to fading light after the second set. In the third set, Dimitrov injured himself while attempting a low backhand volley. He continued briefly but retired shortly after serving due to severe pain.
Sinner is now set for his fourth consecutive Wimbledon quarter-final appearance. He will face Ben Shelton next, holding a favorable 5-1 record against him in their past encounters.
