Jannik Sinner has edged closer to Carlos Alcaraz in their competition for Big Titles following his victory at Wimbledon. On Sunday, the top-ranked player in the PIF ATP Rankings defeated Alcaraz with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to secure the prestigious trophy.
Sinner’s triumph at Wimbledon marks his ninth Big Title. These titles include Grand Slam championships, victories at the Nitto ATP Finals and ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, as well as Olympic singles gold medals. This year alone, Sinner has claimed two significant victories: one at the Australian Open and now at Wimbledon.
In recent years, Sinner has been on a winning streak. Since earning his first Big Title in August 2023 in Toronto, he has secured four Grand Slam championships and four ATP Masters 1000 trophies along with a title at the Nitto ATP Finals in 2024. His success rate stands at one Big Title for every 2.4 events played.
Sinner made history by becoming the first Italian man or woman to win a Wimbledon singles title. Previously, Matteo Berrettini reached the final in 2021 and Jasmine Paolini advanced to last year’s championship match but both fell short of victory.
Currently ranked World No.1, Sinner is just one Grand Slam title behind Roland Garros champion Alcaraz who holds five titles. During this year’s Paris final against Alcaraz, Sinner had three championship points but could not clinch the Coupe des Mousquetaires.
Both players are on the brink of completing a Career Grand Slam; Sinner needs only a Roland Garros win while Alcaraz lacks an Australian Open trophy.
Sinner’s career statistics show he wins a Big Title for every 4.6 tournaments played—a conversion rate surpassed only by Novak Djokovic (3.3), Rafael Nadal (3.5), Alcaraz (4.3), Roger Federer (4.4), Pete Sampras (4.9) and Andre Agassi (6.1).
