Jannik Sinner’s recent fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov has drawn attention due to an injury sustained by the Bulgarian player, which forced him to retire. However, Sinner himself suffered a fall that affected his right elbow, and its severity remains uncertain.

During the first game of their matchup, Sinner fell and used his right arm to brace himself. He later took a medical timeout for treatment on his elbow and is now planning an MRI to assess the damage further. “It was a quite unfortunate fall,” Sinner mentioned in his post-match press conference. Despite reviewing footage of the incident, he noted feeling discomfort during serves and forehands.

Sinner will collaborate with ATP Tour physiotherapists following his recent separation from his own physiotherapist and trainer. “Here they have good ATP physios, in any case,” he said, expressing confidence in receiving appropriate care.

In reflecting on Dimitrov’s performance before the retirement, Sinner commended Dimitrov’s serving precision and strategic gameplay under windy conditions. “He served incredibly well… I wish him a speedy recovery,” Sinner added.

Looking ahead, Sinner is set for a Wimbledon rematch with Ben Shelton after having previously defeated him in last year’s fourth round. The Italian leads their rivalry 5-1 in Lexus ATP Head2Head matches.

Before focusing on Shelton, Sinner emphasized the importance of addressing his health: “Let’s see what’s coming… Now I have to focus on other stuff first.”
